F.A.Q.
Frequently Asked Question!
Do I need to have an appointment?
Yes! Because we are a small family owned and run business we need to know exactly how many dogs we have coming in each day. But, we also over staff most days so that if you call trying to come in on the same day, more than likely we can fit you in. If not, usually we can get you in within 1 to 2 days.
What time do I need to make the appointment?
We usually have one groomer opening the shop and another coming in the afternoon so that we can schedule thoughout the day. If you need an evening appointment please let us know. We can stay late on some days.
Does my dog need to be current on Vaccinations?
Yes! We must maintain a clean and disease-free environment for every dog and cat that comes in. We take every precaution possible to obtain our goal. We require the Rabies vaccine. We highly recommend Bordetella (Kennel Cough) and Dhlpp. Please bring proof of vaccinations with you.
Why does it take longer on some days for my dog to be ready than other days?
We do not start and finish one dog at a time. We use a rotating method when grooming. What happens is... Groomers have a few dogs come in close together. The prep work is done on each dog, then they are bathed and hand dried. The dog then goes into the cage to finish drying. This helps the dog relax between prep work and finish work. After most dogs are done and they are dry the finish work is done. Depending on what kind of dogs we get and the condition of their coat determines how long it takes for your dog to be done.
Why is my dog so scared when I take him to the grooming shop?
Your dog has discovered that the grooming shop is where he is separated from his beloved owner. He/she may shake, but this usually stops soon after you leave. We do our very best to make your dog feel safe and loved while he/she is here.
Will my dog be sedated? Or can you sedate my dog?
We NEVER sedate a dog. Here at Scotty’s K9 Design we try very hard to groom your dog with love and patience. If your dogs anxiety does not improve over time we have from time to time suggested that a visit to your vet is recommended. He/she may provide you with a sedatation treatment, that you must administer prior to coming to the grooming shop.
Can I stay with my pet during grooming?
99% of the time the answer is NO. Because you are the love of your dog’s life and seeing you puts your dog into a frenzy of excitement it is almost impossible to groom your dog properly. Our instruments have to be sharp to be able to groom so when your dog becomes very wiggly because he/she can see you it becomes very dangerous for them. Most times we do not finish the groom and you will still have to pay full price.
Do I need to get my dog groomed in the winter?
YES of course you should. Some pet owners neglect to have their pets groomed in the winter. It may be cold, but pets still need proper grooming to stay healthy and happy. We usually use a longer cut on your pet if they spend time outdoors. Otherwise keep them the length that fits them best, and put a sweater on them for extra warmth.
Why do you insist on shaving down my dog?
The only time I insist on shaving a dog down is when de-matting becomes painful for the pet. HUMANITY will always come before VANITY here at Scotty’s K9 Design Dog Grooming.
Will you muzzle my pet?
We try hard not to, and only if your dog shows signs of aggression. We have to provide a safe environment for both the pets and groomers here at Scotty’s K9 Design. We will let you know if your pet was muzzled and every time they come in we work with them patiently to help them overcome their fear.
Why aren’t you open every day of the week?
We are a small family owned business. We currently have 2 grooming shops open with 4 sisters to run them both. We are open 4 days a week at each location so we can provide grooming throughout Utah County. We also chose to work out of our homes so that we can keep our overhead low which in turn makes affordable grooming for you. You will probably see some of our family with us or close by. We love our families just as much as we like grooming and we believe this is a great solution for everyone.
